What Is the Karnataka SSLC Supplementary Exam?

Karnataka conducts the SSLC examination in three rounds every academic year:

  • Exam 1 (Main Exam): Held in March–April. Result declared today, April 23, 2026.
  • Exam 2 (Supplementary Exam): Held approximately 3–4 weeks after the Exam 1 result. Students who failed in one or more subjects in Exam 1 can appear for those specific subjects.
  • Exam 3: A third opportunity for students who could not clear in Exam 1 or Exam 2. Typically held in June–July.

This system ensures that a single bad attempt does not set a student back by a full year. Students who clear all subjects in Exam 2 receive their final SSLC certificate without any supplementary mark on it.

Karnataka SSLC Exam 2 – Subjects and Exam Pattern

In the Supplementary Exam, students only need to appear for the subjects in which they failed or were absent. They do not need to re-appear for subjects they have already cleared in Exam 1.

The exam pattern, marking scheme, and question paper format for Exam 2 is the same as Exam 1:

  • Total marks: 625 (across all subjects)
  • First Language: 125 marks
  • Second Language: 100 marks
  • Third Language: 100 marks
  • Mathematics: 100 marks
  • Science: 100 marks
  • Social Science: 100 marks
  • Minimum passing marks: 35 out of 100 in each subject

What Happens If You Fail Exam 2 Also?

Students who are unable to clear their failed subjects in Exam 2 can appear for Exam 3, which is the third and final opportunity available in the same academic year. Exam 3 is expected in June–July 2026. Students who clear all subjects in Exam 3 also receive a full SSLC pass certificate from KSEAB.

If a student is unable to clear in all three exams, they will need to re-register as a private candidate and appear in the next academic year’s SSLC examination.

Tips to Prepare for Karnataka SSLC Supplementary Exam 2026

  • Identify the exact subjects in which you failed and focus only on those.
  • Go through the NCERT textbooks and KSEAB-prescribed study material thoroughly.
