Which States Dominated JEE Main 2026?

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have dominated the Session 2 toppers list, with the maximum number of 100-percentile scorers coming from these two states. This continues the strong trend of South Indian coaching hubs particularly in Hyderabad producing high concentrations of JEE toppers every year. Rajasthan, powered by the Kota coaching industry, continues to produce multiple toppers from Session 1. Delhi, Chandigarh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Gujarat also featured prominently in both sessions.

How Is JEE Main AIR 1 Determined When Multiple Students Score 100 Percentile?

When multiple students score a perfect 100 percentile, NTA uses this tie-breaking hierarchy to determine AIR 1 and subsequent ranks:

  1. Higher marks in Mathematics — given the highest preference
  2. If still tied — higher marks in Physics
  3. If still tied — higher marks in Chemistry
  4. If still tied — lower proportion of incorrect to correct answers across all subjects
  5. If still tied — the older candidate gets the higher rank

This is why Aarush Singhal secured AIR 1 despite 25 other candidates also scoring 100 percentile his subject-wise performance in Mathematics was the deciding factor.

What Happens Next for JEE Main 2026 Toppers?

For all 26 students with 100 percentile and the top 2.5 lakh qualifiers, the next step is JEE Advanced 2026. Registration for JEE Advanced will open shortly at jeeadv.ac.in. Historically, nearly 90% of JEE Main toppers who score 100 percentile opt for Computer Science at IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi after clearing JEE Advanced. For those targeting the NIT+ system, the top choices are CSE at NIT Trichy or NIT Surathkal. JoSAA Counselling for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs begins from June 2, 2026.
